Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and thePhiladelphia MLK Association still relevant

I still run into people who say to me, those old civil rights groups of the 1960s don’t matter anymore. I have some who say to me, “The only thing people know about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is that he had a dream.”

Of course, that’s ridiculous. Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did a whole lot more than “have a dream.” He was a leader in every sense of the word, and during a time in our history that was tumultuous, dangerous for people of color, and dangerous for whites who supported Blacks in their fight for civil rights and human rights. Dr. King stood firm in his convictions, his nonviolent actions, and his leadership.

I think if Dr. King were alive today and he checked in on the Philadelphia Martin Luther King, Jr. Association for Nonviolence, Inc., he might say,…
