Rochester, N.Y. — A woman accepted a plea deal Friday for stealing thousands of dollars worth of state pension payments sent to her mother following her death, which was not reported to the pension system, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
Karen Walsh, 68, of Rochester pleaded guilty to petit larceny and was ordered to pay full restitution, but avoided time behind bars, DiNapoli said.
Walsh’s mother, who died in 2020, was receiving a monthly payment as the beneficiary of her late husband’s state pension plan. Walsh did not notify the state of the death and pocketed a total of $19,524 in pension payments, according to DiNapoli…
