Sugar Land is about to let you drink while you shop, and it could transform the city

SUGAR LAND, Texas (CW39) – Sugar Land is gearing up for a major shift in how people spend their evenings. On December 5, the city will launch its social district, which allows people to carry specially marked alcoholic drinks outdoors while walking through Town Square and First Colony Mall.

“We want our residents to have a good time, and also anyone that comes to visit,” said Elizabeth Huff, Director of Economic Development & Tourism.

With the city pushing for more walkable spaces and a vibrant street scene, officials say this new social district is only the beginning. The move is part of a three-year strategic plan and was approved by the City Council back in January.
