Mother pleads for help as search for 29-year-old autistic son grows

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Two weeks after 29-year-old August Beckwith disappeared from the University of Utah campus, volunteers are expanding their search into new neighborhoods as his mother pleads for more help and for answers about why no statewide alert has been issued.

Beckwith, who is autistic and nonverbal, was last seen on Nov. 17 near Wakara Way after leaving the hospital with his mother.

Search efforts have since grown beyond campus into the Sugar House area and downtown Salt Lake City, where volunteers spent Monday canvassing neighborhoods, handing out flyers and placing supply boxes in locations Beckwith is familiar with…
