Hit-and-run suspect arrested in Asheville with help of drone: Police

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) — Police officers in Asheville were able to arrest two men with the help of drone technology and license plate recognition systems.

Arrest on Caribou Lane

The Asheville Police Department said Lucas Malachi Spatuzza was wanted for stealing sporting equipment from a store on Brevard Road and an armed robbery that occurred at a business on Battery Park Avenue on November 22.

Officers said they used Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) to locate Spatuzza, who was arrested at the 400 block of Caribou Lane on November 26.

Detention center officer charged with assault in Buncombe Co.

The 28-year-old faces charges of attempted larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted breaking and entering of a building, possession of stolen goods or property, attempted breaking and entering of a car and injury to personal property.

Spatuzza was booked at the Buncombe County Detention Facility on a $115,000 bond.
