Asian longhorned beetle threatens Mount Pleasant trees, prompts urgent eradication efforts

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) — Mount Pleasant Committees of Council met Monday, with discussions in the Planning Committee meeting including a certain bug that is posing a threat to the trees here in the Lowcountry.

The Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) is native to the Korean peninsula and were likely carried through firewood or debris to Mount Pleasant after they were discovered in Hollywood back in 2020. They were first reported in Mount Pleasant in September.
