Electronics manufacturer buys Grand Rapids plant, saves 116 jobs

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An Otsego-based electronics manufacturer has acquired a plant in Grand Rapids that was previously set to close.

Earlier this year, Lacroix Electronics announced that it intended to close its plant at 1655 Michigan St. NE as part of a plan to move operations out of North America. More than 100 employees would have lost their jobs.

On Tuesday, Safari Circuits — a portfolio company of Waséyabek, the economic development company owned by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi — announced it had acquired the plant, which will now be known as Safari Grand Rapids.

The sale was completed in September. Since then, Safari has seen increased customer demand, it said in a release. The company plans to maintain the plant’s existing jobs, hire more than 20 new employees and invest $750,000 in new equipment, according to the release…
