Glock to Halt Sales of Easily Modified Pistols Following Legal Pressure from Chicago

Glock Inc. has announced it will stop making its current pistol models that can be modified with ‘Glock switches.’ This decision follows legal action from the City of Chicago. A Cook County Circuit Court recently denied Glock’s request to dismiss a lawsuit from the city. The lawsuit claims the company allowed its firearms to be converted into fully automatic weapons. The case began in May 2024 and points to the use of these modified pistols in shootings in Chicago.

Mayor Brandon Johnson welcomed the announcement. He said Glock switches have affected Chicago communities and credited the city’s efforts to hold gun manufacturers responsible. He also stated that Chicago remains committed to reducing gun violence.

Corporation Counsel Mary B. Richardson-Lowry said Glock’s plan to stop production and sales of its current models by November 30, 2025, is important.
