West Salem truck driver sentenced for Kwik Trip slashing attack

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — A Fox Point man received a four-year sentence Tuesday for attacking another truck driver with a blade at a West Salem Kwik Trip last year.

Paul Stokes, 60, appeared before La Crosse County Judge Joseph Veenstra for sentencing on second-degree recklessly endangering safety. He will serve two years in prison followed by two years of extended supervision, with credit for a little over a year already served.

The Oct. 21, 2024 incident began when Stokes became agitated while parking his semi-truck at the Kwik Trip on Jefferson Street East. When the victim approached to ask why Stokes kept honking at him, Stokes responded, “It’s my country and I can do what I want.”…
