Austin could start a program for incarcerated veterans to train shelter dogs

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Next week, Austin City Council members will take up 115 items at their Dec. 11 meeting. The first item on the agenda would help shelter animals and incarcerated military veterans.

Item No. 1 would “provide an animal training program for military veterans incarcerated in the Travis State Jail,” according to the city. The item is on the consent agenda, which is a group of “routine items” that the council adopts with one motion rather than voting on each item separately…
