Retired Army leaders weigh in on scrutiny over U.S. military narco-terrorism operations

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — As questions mount over recent U.S. military operations targeting narco-terrorism networks, two retired senior Army leaders say any judgment on the use of lethal force should wait until all facts are known.

Retired Brig. Gen. Andy Hilmes and retired Command Sgt. Maj. Jeff Mellinger, both of whom have participated in high-level decision-making on the use of deadly force and served in combat zones where those decisions were carried out, say the public does not yet have enough information to draw conclusions.

“We have no idea other than what we’re hearing,” Mellinger said. “Who knows whether it’s fact or fiction or a combination.”
