Detroit Metropolitan Airport has been smoke-free since 2010. Now the people who run it want to change that.

On October 1, 2025, the Wayne County Airport Authority started taking bids for a cigar lounge inside the McNamara Terminal. Health groups, county officials, and state lawmakers have lined up against the plan.

But the airport is still collecting proposals, and the fight over what happens next is just getting started.
