Thanksgiving took on a dark tone for residents of Saddlebag Lake Resort near Lake Wales.
The day before the holiday, some residents received letters notifying them of plans to create an 855-acre sand mine just west of the community. The residents learned that they had less than a week, over a holiday weekend, to prepare for a vote on the project.
