A Modesto man was convicted last month of first-degree murder for a 2022 shooting that killed another man and left his ex-girlfriend injured, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.
A jury found Matthew Douglas Cook, 42, guilty of murdering 36-year-old Matthew McDonough on Sept. 29, 2022. Jurors also found true allegations that Cook acted intentionally, deliberately and with premeditation, and that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, verdict forms show. He faces life in prison when sentenced.
