Chickasaw woman paid $90 before overdosing on fentanyl, detective testifies

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A Chickasaw woman paid $90 for fentanyl over the summer and then overdosed hours later, an investigator with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office testified Tuesday.

A judge determined – over the objections of the defense – that prosecutors have enough evidence to present a fentanyl-manslaughter charge against Payton Nicole Beason to a grand jury.

Defense attorney Yancy Burnett argued that even if there was a drug transaction, prosecutors cannot point to anyone who saw Kailin LaPorte swallow the pills or any medical evidence that those drugs caused her death…
