Troubled Carmichael Road hotel shut down after city hearing

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Montgomery City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to revoke the business license of Suburban Studios, a hotel on Carmichael Road, after police outlined months of violent incidents and a steady stream of calls for service tied to the property.

Council members said their action followed a pattern of criminal activity near the hotel that city and police records show included multiple shootings and dozens of calls for help over the past year. According to Montgomery Police Department officials, there were 261 calls for service to the address in the last year; the hotel also generated 51 calls for the fire department.

Police detailed several incidents that helped prompt the hearing: A man was shot multiple times at the hotel in August; in September, two men were killed and another wounded in a triple shooting on the same block; and in October another shooting occurred just steps away from the hotel entrance…
