Since 2021, Urban League of West Michigan has been running a program aimed at preventing violence in Grand Rapids through its Cure Violence initiative.
This is an evidence-based program using strategies similar to battling a pandemic to fight violence, treating violence as a health issue and investing in communities and people.
“This is village work and it is going to take all of us. We do see violence in our communities and improving quality of life for all Grand Rapids residents will require multiple hands on deck and multiple strategies,” said Latesha Lipscomb, the civilian violence prevention and intervention manager for the City of Grand Rapids. “That means you gotta meet people where they are.”…
