JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Those living in Georgetown noticed a once-crime-ridden corner transformed after the demolition of a decaying building. A grandson removed the eyesore and made other changes, making the area a bit safer for elderly residents and children.
Daniel Cooper recalls the days when his grandfather, Roy Cooper Sr., operated a brass exchange company and ice cream shop on the corner of Ludlow and Woodrow Wilson avenues. He spent days selling tickets to Jackson State University football games from the once-thriving business in the 1980s and ’90s. The two-story building fell into disrepair after his grandfather died.
