Man gets 13 years for hammer attack and robbery on CTA Blue Line platform

A judge on Tuesday handed a 13-year prison sentence to a man who admitted to brutally attacking a CTA passenger with a hammer during a robbery on a Blue Line platform last year, closing one chapter in a case that left the rider with skull fractures and brain bleeding.

Travis Andrews, 30, pleaded guilty to armed robbery during a hearing before Judge Jennifer Coleman. Prosecutors agreed to drop attempted murder and several other counts as part of the plea. His sentence will be cut in half with good behavior under state law.
