Three years in, Trinity’s Closet continues to warm Rockford

ROCKFORD Ill., (WTVO) — Trinity’s Closet, at Trinity Lutheran Church, has been providing coats for the last three winters.

The idea for Trinity’s Closet started with Jay Quinn, Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, with providing coats to people in need. His volunteer, Renee Buhl and her team, took his idea and now they provide boots, hats, gloves and more. “Most people walk so we do feel this is servicing our downtown community that maybe couldn’t get anywhere else to find that layer of warmth,” said Buhl.

In the month of November, they distributed around 600 free coats. The demand is always higher when it gets colder. During their first year, they wondered how they will keep up with the demand since the closet would be empty after the coat drives. “We have people even from a few other churches that go out and shop thrift stores and find bargains and donate to this ministry,” stated Buhl…
