2 charged in Laurel County for allegedly nearly hitting deputy cruiser, emptying bags of drugs while driving

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Two Lexington men were arrested on Monday in Laurel County after allegedly nearly hitting a cruiser that had been blocking the road for safety, with the driver saying he’d snorted fentanyl just hours before getting behind the wheel.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were helping emergency personnel battle a vehicle fire on Nov. 27 in the area of the KY-909 exit to I-75, a gray Nissan Armada allegedly disregarded the vehicles and nearly hit a cruiser that had been blocking the area before taking off down the ramp.

Authorities wrote that while chasing the Armada, the driver—later identified as 68-year-old Anthony D. Mace of Lexington—allegedly held bags of suspected fentanyl out the window before cutting them open and throwing them out while driving.

Deputies wrote that the chase ended when Mace eventually stopped about a mile north of the I-75 exit. Deputies saw that the driver’s side door was covered in a white powdery substance, and he allegedly admitted to investigators that he’d snorted fentanyl roughly four hours before the stop…
