Woman sentenced in deadly Providence hit-and-run

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence woman has been sentenced for fleeing the scene of a crash that killed an elderly pedestrian two years ago.

On the morning of Oct. 4, 2023, 85-year-old Vanda Makovetskiy was hit and killed by an oncoming car while crossing North Main Street in Providence.

The driver, Caitlin Kelly, was arrested later that week and charged with failure to stop in an accident resulting in death. She was also cited for failing to report the crash.
