LINCOLN, Neb. — Lincoln North Star High School is preparing to present its annual unified theater production, “Lyle the Crocodile,” this week. The play is part of a unique class that integrates students of all abilities in both on-stage and behind-the-scenes roles.
“At Lincoln North Star, we’re lucky to have the Unified Theater class. We’ve been putting the show together during class, and actors after school have been working on the production. This week is show week, and we’re putting everything together. Partners are working with their partners to help them on stage in the production, “said Lindsay Mason, the unified theater director.
Mason noted that the cast has grown particularly close this semester, with many students returning for their second or even third Unified Theater. She said that confidence shows in their performances, as students not only develop as actors, but as friends and collaborative partners. The process, Mason said, comes with both challenges and big rewards. Students learn to communicate in different ways, adapt to each other’s needs, and problem-solve together, skills that translate far beyond the stage…
