State police seek public’s help after bicyclist struck and killed in southwest suburb

Illinois State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a bicyclist last week.

At approximately 8:29 a.m. on Nov. 25, troopers responded to the area of Route 53 near Tehle Road, where they located a male bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle, police said.

The individual, who was identified as DeAvion Smith, 25, of Joliet, was taken to an area hospital, where he died, the Will County Coroner’s Office said. An autopsy was performed the day following the crash, coroner’s officials said. The final cause and manner of death were pending autopsy, police and toxicology reports…
