Xcel Energy: Data centers wont increase energy rates

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– With the largest potential data center in the state seeking to build in Sioux Falls, city councilors heard from Xcel Energy regarding data centers and their energy rates.

Previously, 160 acres of land was bought by Gemini of South Dakota LLC for a possible data center between Sioux Falls and Brandon.

Steve Kolbeck, principal manager at Xcel Energy and Former Public Utilities Commission (PUC) Chair, said during a city informational meeting energy rates would not increase due to data centers, adding the regulatory regime that they operate in from the PUC doesn’t allow it…
