Huntington Beach Resident, 71, Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck; Police Investigate Pedestrian Safety Concerns

A 71-year-old man was fatally struck by a pickup truck early Monday morning in Huntington Beach, raising concerns about pedestrian safety in residential areas. The incident occurred around 6:25 a.m. near the intersection of Springdale Street and Brannen Drive. According to CBS News Los Angeles, the Huntington Beach Police Department confirmed that the man, whose identity has yet to be released, was unconscious when officers arrived at the scene and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The driver of the white Ford F-250, a 37-year-old Huntington Beach resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police. Impairment on his part is not currently believed to have been a factor in the collision. The victim was walking just north of the intersection when hit by the pickup truck traveling northbound on Springdale Street. KTLA reported that there is still ongoing speculation to consider whether impairment was a factor for the pedestrian.

The Huntington Beach Police Department has tasked its Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) with the case to thoroughly understand the dynamics of the event.
