Birmingham City Council approves new homes for former Carraway Hospital site

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Major changes are coming to the former Carraway Hospital property after the Birmingham City Council approved plans Tuesday for new residential construction on the 50-acre site.

Construction is slated to start in early 2026, according to CR Endeavors, the developer overseeing The Star Uptown project. Demolition of the old hospital is currently wrapping up, and the first homes are expected to be ready for residents by early 2027.
