FANCY GAP, Virginia (WCMH) — A Columbus man has been pronounced dead after a multi-vehicle crash occurred on a Virginia interstate over the weekend.
According to the Virginia State Police, a Columbus man has been identified as the driver killed in a crash involving a pickup truck, a tractor trailer, and a Tesla. The crash occurred on Interstate 77 North, near Fancy Gap, Virginia, in the southwest section of the state on Nov. 30.

State troopers responded to the scene in Carroll County at 5:07 a.m. where several vehicles had piled up at the State Route 683 overpass. A preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck was traveling in the left lane and struck the back of a tractor trailer before it veered into the median.
Shortly after that crash, a 2020 Tesla was attempting to change lanes, from left to right, and reportedly struck a separate tractor-trailer, then swerved back into the left lane, and hit the first tractor trailer.
The driver of the Tesla, Dylan Hammond, of Columbus, was wearing a seatbelt and was extracted from his vehicle by the Hillsville Fire Department. Hammond, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene and the fire department confirmed that inclement weather and icy road conditions are believed to be a possible cause of the crash…
