NEW YORK (PIX11) – Some children are getting in some extra sleep on Wednesday as schools open late after snow battered New York and New Jersey.
A winter storm struck the tri-state area on Tuesday, bringing snow, slush, rain and cold temperatures. Some places in New York saw over 6 inches of snow, according to PIX11 meteorologists.

The National Weather Service is warning of patchy black ice on Wednesday, as temperatures near freezing and roads are still wet. Temperatures are only expected to reach 40 degrees in New York City, with wind chill values between 25 and 35 degrees.
