Man, 74, named person of interest after discovery of human remains in San Diego

Authorities have named a person of interest after the discovery of human remains at a San Diego property prompted an ongoing investigation by police and prosecutors, authorities said.

In a news release, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office said 74-year-old Dwight William Rhone, a previous tenant at the property, is a person of interest in the investigation.

The case began with an investigation by California Highway Patrol detectives, who suspected human remains were on the property in the Southcrest neighborhood, San Diego police said.

The district attorney said Rhone is already in custody and charged with the killing of a man, Bernardo Moreno. The prosecutor’s office did not release any further details about the homicide charge.

Multiple agencies, including the FBI, served a search warrant at the property on Tuesday and found the remains, police said. Whether the remains belong to multiple people is unknown…
