Madison College will celebrate Hmong New Year on Saturday

Madison College will host its annual Hmong New Year Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Truax Campus Cafeteria Atrium (Room D1630) and Redsten Gymnasium. The free community event will feature Hmong music, dance, food, art, and cultural activities.

The celebration will include local food vendors, an arts and crafts marketplace, children’s activity stations, and community resource tables. New additions this year include a singing competition for high school and college students and a cornhole tournament open to amateur players ages 12 and older. Doors will open at 10 a.m., with some competitions beginning before the main program starts at 11 a.m.

Organizers note that this year’s event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the first Hmong families resettling in the United States following the Vietnam War and the Secret War in Laos. Wisconsin, Minnesota, and California now have the nation’s largest Hmong populations…
