A Lubbock man’s pathway to serving as a U.S. Navy officer

LUBBOCK, Texas — Navy Midshipman 2nd Class David Winger is a Lubbock native and currently midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy. Winger, who recently completed Career Orientation and Training (CORTRAMID) aboard the USS Boxer, currently operating out of San Diego, California.

Winger graduated from Frenship High School and is majoring in English at the academy. The Naval Academy is the undergraduate college of the naval service, preparing young men and women to become professionals in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. CORTRAMID is a four-week summer program that offers Midshipmen an opportunity away from university life and experience the communities of the Navy and Marine Corps.
