Driverless taxi service Waymo coming to St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – Waymo, the driverless taxi service, is soon launching the company in St. Louis.

Missouri’s new proposed autonomous vehicle law is opening the road for companies like Waymo to explore our streets. SB 1050 would let fully driverless cars operate on public roads, no human driver required, as long as they meet strict safety, insurance, and certification rules.

According to a release, staff from Waymo will begin driving around the community this week to familiarize the electric vehicles in the city. This includes mapping the territory, such as curbs, stop signs, crosswalks, and more. Utilizing AI and other data, the car is able to determine speed limits, lanes, and steering maneuvers…
