4 fallen utility poles closed Likelike Highway at School Street

HONOLULU (KHON) — Around 2:34 a.m. on Dec. 2, the Department of Transportation reported “multiple downed utility poles,” which closed Kāne‘ohe-bound Likelike Highway between School Street and Wilson Tunnel.

“Earlier this morning, HECO called for HPD assistance with traffic control as they inspected arcing powerlines. [Four] aging poles collapsed on Kalihi Street, causing power outages and necessitating police presence,” Honolulu Police Department said. “HECO estimated the repair work will continue into the early evening hours. Afternoon traffic flow in the area will be affected by the repair work.”

The highway remained closed so crews could remove and reset poles.

One lane opened at 1 p.m. and another lane will be opened by 3 p.m. for the afternoon traffic rush, DOT reported.

At 7 p.m., one lane will close again so crews can restore service in the area, HECO said…
