A holiday promotion at a California coffee shop was meant to invite customers into a world of magic. Instead, it drew the attention of Warner Bros.’ legal team, according to the owners.
Covenant Coffee, a nonprofit café in Bakersfield that trains and employs current and former foster youth, received a cease-and-desist letter last week ordering it to strip “Harry Potter” references from its holiday celebration, Director of Operations Shelby Woolley said.
The event, which began Nov. 29 at the shop’s Stockdale Towers location, originally ran under the name “Holidays at Hogwarts.” A sign at the door declared, “Wizards Welcome (Muggles Tolerated).”…
