Raccoon found in Lexington County tests positive for rabies

A raccoon found in Lexington County has tested positive for rabies according to the South Carolina Department of Health.

The raccoon, which was found near N. Stonehedge and Brookshire drives, was submitted to the South Carolina Department of Health’s laboratory on Dec. 1. It was confirmed to have rabies on Dec. 2. While no people are known to have been exposed to the rabid animal at this time, DPH did indicate that one dog was exposed and it will be quarantined as required by the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.
