When a band is comprised of members who came together while attending Berklee College of Music, you kind of know what to expect.
I’ve spoken with a number of national acts who may have met in high school or in some other form. But when a group meets “at the world’s preeminent college for the study of music,” the level of musicianship is ratcheted up a bit.
“Berklee is kind of like the minor leagues of the music industry,” said Sampson Hellerman, drummer for the funk quintet Ripe. “It’s sort of this weird accurate simulation of what the business is actually like, but you’re in this small microcosm in downtown Boston. The network that that creates, I mean, we’re working with people now who we met freshman year of school, and that was 2011. Those relationships and those networks, I think that’s why you really go to Berklee.”…
