Driver rescued after car crashes through ice into Long Pond

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A dramatic rescue unfolded along the Lake Ontario State Parkway Wednesday afternoon after a car left a snowy roadway, went airborne and crashed through the ice, ending up partially submerged in the frigid water of Long Pond.

Lakeshore Fire District Chief Jason France said crews were dispatched just after 2:30 p.m. for a report of a vehicle in the water with the possibility of people trapped inside. When first responders arrived, they found bystanders already in the lake attempting to help the driver still inside the car.

State police entered the water moments later and tried to reach the victim before firefighters in cold-water gear were able to assist…
