Massachusetts State Police join forces against street takeovers

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Massachusetts law enforcement agencies took part in discussing best practices to prevent and respond to illegal street takeovers.

Massachusetts is cracking down on illegal drag racing and street takeovers, as these activities pose a significant risk to public safety. Street takeovers are often held late at night, where drivers and spectators gather to seize public roads or intersections to perform high-risk vehicle stunts such as racing, drifting and burnouts.

Many street takeovers are organized and advertised on social media, where State Police monitor to prevent and respond in real-time to this illegal activity. On October 11th, police across the state issued 232 civil citations, 74 warnings, 20 criminal summons, and 7 arrests. 15 vehicles were towed, 2 vehicles were seized, and 1 stolen car was recovered.
