On November 21, Tyson Foods announced it will close its beef plant in Lexington, Nebraska, and also convert its Amarillo, Texas, facility to “a single, full-capacity shift.” The reason for these changes given in the press release from Tyson was “to meet customer demand” so that “production will be increased at other company beef facilities, optimizing volumes across our network.”
The closure of the Lexington plant will affect around 3,200 employees, and the change to a single shift in the Amarillo facility will result in the loss of approximately 1,700 jobs. No official closure date was given by Tyson.
Tyson noted the impact this decision would make on its employees and offered support “including helping them {employees} apply for open positions at other facilities and providing relocation benefits.”…
