Investigators determine cause of early morning fire that resulted in total loss of home

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Baton Rouge Fire Department says an early Thursday morning, Dec. 4, house fire left two people displaced.

Officials say the fire happened in the 10000 block of Avenue J around 4 a.m. Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire throughout the home and both occupants safely outside. Crews were able to get the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes, according to officials.

Investigators were able to determine that the fire started from an unattended candle. Officials say one of the occupants reported that a candle burning on the windowsill ignited the curtains, causing the fire to spread from there.

No injuries were reported. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the two displaced individuals…
