Arkansas sees rise in runaway youth, advocates warn of increasing risks

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- Advocates in Central Arkansas say they are seeing a rise in the number of runaway children and teens, and the situations they are running from, and into, are becoming more dangerous.

National estimates vary, but organizations like the National Runaway Safeline report between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth run away each year in the United States.

Another estimate from the National Conference of State Legislatures places the number at 1.5 million, representing nearly 7 percent of all minors.
