Human remains found by Center Point dog identified as missing Alabama man

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Curtis Taylor Jr., a 25-year-old visually impaired man from Center Point, Alabama, whose skeletal remains were discovered in Birmingham. A homeowner found a human skull on Aug. 20, 2024, on the shoulder of the roadway near his residence in the 1300 block of 5th Place NW. It is believed the skull was moved by the homeowner’s dog, but the original location remains unknown.

The Birmingham Police Department initially investigated the circumstances surrounding the death, but the case has now been taken over by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. All skeletal remains recovered have been positively identified through dental and DNA comparison as belonging to Taylor, who was last seen alive by family on Feb. 6, 2024, at a family residence in Center Point.
