COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Water provided an update to City Council on Tuesday about the progress of its Capital Improvement Program, which focuses on upgrading the city’s aging sewer and drinking water infrastructure.
Over the past several years, the City of Columbia has invested heavily in improving its water and wastewater systems to help prevent stormwater overflows, reduce pollution and improve overall water quality. During Tuesday’s meeting, city leaders approved several new contracts that will move the next phase of the program forward.
“We’re about two-thirds of the way complete with both the number of projects and the economic spend,” said Clint Shealy, Assistant City Manager with Columbia Water after the meeting. “But over the next seven years, we’ve got a tally of about $350 million of investment to make in our wastewater collection system and treatment system.”…
