FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Fort Wayne History Center hosted city officials and family members Thursday to honor a beloved former Santa Claus and make a special announcement.
The late Phil Steigerwald, who was best known as the long-standing Santa Claus for the Wolf & Dessauer department store in downtown Fort Wayne, was honored in a proclamation from Mayor Sharon Tucker, read by City Council President Geoff Paddock, on Thursday morning.
The proclamation notes his accolades as “Fort Wayne’s Favorite Santa Claus,” and declares Dec. 4 as Santa in Wonderland Day…
