Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Hot Water Music and Sister Hazel are just a few examples of Gainesville-based music groups that make the city’s music scene one of the most eclectic in the country.
While Gainesville’s music scene offers a diverse musical palette, many local fans might be more familiar with the city’s ska/punk roots shaped by bands like Against Me! and Less Than Jake. Though we can’t travel back to experience Gainesville’s punk heyday, one University of Florida course helps fill that gap.
