State Crackdown on Illegal Trucking Aims to Improve Safety on Alabama Highways

Governor Kay Ivey announced progress in Alabama’s efforts to address illegal trucking operations. This follows a partnership between the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The collaboration began on October 27, 2025. It aims to improve public safety along major interstate corridors with high commercial vehicle traffic and crash risks.

Since the initiative started, ALEA’s Motor Carrier Safety Unit (MCSU) detained 82 individuals during commercial vehicle inspections. These detentions resulted from two Strike Force operations held from October 27 to October 30, and from November 16 to November 18, 2025. In total, 242 individuals were referred to ICE for immigration status checks. Of those, 82 were detained, including 12 who did not have a driver’s license.

Governor Ivey stated that Alabama will enforce laws against illegal operators who may affect communities or the trucking industry. She emphasized the need for accountability for those who break the law or compromise highway safety…
