EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The East Providence firefighters union is on a mission to make sure people are warm this winter.
Lt. Justin Rapp, a member of IAFF Local 850’s executive board, said the union is holding its inaugural coat drive this month. Donations of new and gently used coats can be dropped off at any East Providence fire station through Saturday, Dec. 20.
The goal, according to Rapp, is to provide as many warm winter clothes as possible to individuals and families who need them most. He also pointed out that the coat drive is a result of the hard work and dedication of firefighter Melissa Gieck.

Rapp said Local 850 has been “deeply committed to supporting families and organizations throughout our community” for many years. East Providence firefighters have previously organized deliveries of holiday meal baskets for families in need and provided Christmas gifts to children who may not have gotten them otherwise…
