SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Eric Swalwell will hold a meet and greet in San Francisco Thursday evening on the heels of a new poll showing him leading the race on the Democratic side. The Democratic representative jumped into the race to succeed Gov. Gavin Newsom last month and, according to a new Emerson College Polling survey, has nudged former congresswoman Katie Porter out of the top spot with Democratic voters.

Swalwell (D-Livermore) now enjoys 20% of support with Democratic voters to Porter’s 17%, the poll indicates. The Democratic field remains split with former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at 8%, businessman Tom Steyer at 7%, and former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra at 5%.
On the Republican side, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Biano leads the field with 33% followed by television personality Steve Hilton at 30%.
