Student Stable After Shooting at Burton High School in San Francisco; Suspect Detained

A student at Phillip and Sala Burton Academic High School was shot in the leg during the lunch hour on Monday, December 2, marking another troubling incident of gun violence on a San Francisco school campus. The shooting occurred around 12:10 p.m. at the Portola neighborhood school, sending the campus into immediate lockdown and prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency personnel.

The victim, a teenage male student, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. The suspected shooter, also a juvenile male, fled the campus but was apprehended approximately one mile away in the 1400 block of Shafter Avenue in the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood, where police recovered a firearm during the arrest.
